John Nelson was a Swedish immigrant who patented a revolutionary sock knitting machine in 1868, it would eventually be improved upon by his son Franklin, allowing the machine to create the first “seamless” socks. Eventually the company would add the signature red heel to differentiate themselves from imitators. These red heeled socks were used to create some of the first sock monkeys during the great depression, giving them their iconic red mouths. A free pattern has been included with every pair since!
